Soft-Proof an FPV Still for a Specific Print Job

Civil application reference · Print planning

Preview intended output, not a generic CMYK label

A venue team has permission to print a still from its recorded FPV tour. In this invented brief, the printer supplies a profile for the selected printer-and-paper combination. The frame includes a light stone counter and a dark fabric seat; neither is assumed to be a neutral reference.

In Photoshop, open a second window for the same document. Set View → Proof Setup → Custom, then choose that profile under Device To Simulate.

This conversion preview uses Preserve Numbers off. Use the printing workflow's rendering intent; enable black-point compensation only if printing will use it.

Condition to record: supplied profile · printer · paper · conversion and simulation choices

Toggle View → Proof Colors in the comparison window. Paper-white and ink-black simulation require profile support.

Give each observation a location

Light stone counterCompare how clearly the countertop separates from the nearby light upholstery. Record the actual difference between views without calling the stone white or guessing a physical sheet's appearance.

Dark fabric seatLook for the seam and folds, not just a pleasing overall thumbnail. If they become harder to distinguish, report that area alongside the chosen output condition.

The monitor, its profile and room lighting affect preview reliability.

Keep the working file unchanged during this comparison. The useful output is two observations tied to one stated print condition, not a colour-accuracy certificate. No Photoshop session, profile or paper proof was tested here. Retained workshop photographs are unrelated to the invented venue.
