Listen for the words that reveal a poor envelope

Start playback before “Beyond,” not halfway through the sentence. If the listener misses that entrance while the music is still prominent, the transition into the lower music level is arriving too late for this edit. Changing the narrator's words is not the first remedy for a badly placed music transition.

At the comma, imagine an automatic rise followed immediately by another drop. The little musical surge competes with the sentence even though the voice is briefly silent. In this example, keep one supporting span across the short breath. A longer pause with a genuine change of scene might deserve a different choice; punctuation alone does not decide it.

Finally, listen through “terrace” and into the garden view. An early recovery can obscure the ending; a very late one can leave the following picture unexpectedly thin. Shape the return around what is actually heard, not merely the rectangle representing the dialogue clip.

Use generated keyframes as an editable proposal

Adobe's “Automatically duck audio” describes tagging audio in Essential Sound, enabling ducking on Music or Ambience, and choosing Dialogue under Duck Against. The process creates gain keyframes in an Amplify effect. Sensitivity concerns triggering; Duck Amount controls reduction; Fade Duration and Fade Position shape the transition.

For this sentence, inspect the generated envelope at the entrance, short pause and ending. If it produces the comma surge described above, adjust that passage rather than accepting the curve because it was generated automatically. These are proposed listening decisions, not settings that have been tested on a supplied file.

Check the delivered mix as one piece

After revising, listen to the actual export from the preceding music through the complete sentence and following picture. Also hear the speech alone to distinguish an unclear recording from competition introduced by the music. A pleasing green envelope cannot establish intelligibility, and lowering music does not repair every weakness in a voice recording.

Judge the full mix on the intended listening arrangement and a practical second playback device. If words are still difficult to follow, reconsider the music's activity under that passage or the editorial spacing. There is no universal ducking depth, fade time or loudness number for this fictional material.
