The FrSky Tandem X18 combines a color touch interface, physical aircraft controls and FrSky's TD-ISRM radio module in a compact transmitter. It is a useful option for a UAV model or FPV aircraft whose receiver requirements fit the supported FrSky families. Start with that receiver decision, then compare the handset's controls, battery and carrying size.
This is the standard X18, not X18S or X20R. Its operating system is ETHOS; the display provides radio settings and model information rather than an onboard-camera viewing screen.

Choose a receiver that provides the aircraft-side connection and outputs you require. Next, select the corresponding radio mode and regional equipment package. A dual-band transmitter label alone does not define the receiver installed in the aircraft.
List each receiver model instead of asking whether the radio supports “FrSky.” Older and newer receiver families use different protocols and firmware requirements. A small receiver list is more useful than a broad compatibility assumption.
The X18's internal module has 2.4GHz and 900M radio paths. The latter is a family label: the actual regional configuration uses the applicable 868MHz or 915MHz equipment. Each selected working mode has its own receiver requirements.
| Receiver choice | Documented X18 mode | What the buyer should identify |
|---|---|---|
| TD receiver | 2.4G and 900M TD | Exact Tandem receiver, region and required aircraft outputs. |
| ACCESS receiver | 2.4G ACCESS or 900M ACCESS | Receiver band and supported firmware; do not assume both paths apply to every receiver. |
| ACCST D16 receiver | 2.4G ACCST D16 | D16 V2 or later firmware as specified by FrSky. |
| Different RF system | Separate external-module assessment | Module dimensions, electrical needs and documented radio support. |
The 480×320 touch display sits above the two Hall-sensor sticks. X18 also provides four standard trims, two additional trims, front custom buttons and rear momentary buttons. Think about the controls your aircraft operator needs to reach while holding the radio; the layout matters as much as the specification count.
Up to 24 channels are listed. That capacity should be mapped against the selected receiver and aircraft interface, rather than read as 24 physical connectors on every receiver. For an FPV configuration, the video system remains a separate item: goggles, a monitor or another suitable display must match the chosen camera link.

FrSky lists dimensions of 200×192×95mm and a 687g weight without the battery. Compare carrying arrangements after adding the intended battery and any module. The rear compartment is the Lite type; it is not the same enclosure as a full-size JR module bay.
The operating supply is 6.5–8.4V from a suitable 2S lithium battery. USB-C charging support is documented for the prescribed battery arrangement. Battery inclusion, capacity and charging accessories should be explicit in the quoted package.
Does X18 provide the X20R's RF feature set?
Use the X18's own TD-ISRM specifications. Features listed for another Tandem transmitter should not be transferred to this model.
Can the rear bay accept any RF module?
It is a Lite-type bay. The exact module still needs a fit, power and documented-support check.
Is this an Android handheld ground station?
No. ETHOS manages the radio and model settings. Select another system when your requirement is an Android application workspace with live UAV video.
