Choose a reading task, not an operating exercise

Review the documentation without using the equipment. Ask whether its organization helps a reader locate the information they need. Useful reading tasks include finding:

• The equipment or edition to which the document says it applies.
• The section that explains the document's intended audience and limitations.
• The provider's stated route for questions that the instructions do not answer.

Record where you expected to find the information and where it actually appeared. A missing cross-reference and a missing explanation are different editing problems. Giving the author that distinction is more useful than saying the whole manual is confusing.
