A goggles case can look roomy and still miss one dimension
For someone putting away civilian FPV viewing equipment, a case photograph is a poor substitute for three labelled measurements. A promising top-view footprint can hide a depth problem. This paper comparison uses DJI Goggles 3 and the Pelican 1200 to show that mistake; it is not a tested packing arrangement or a recommendation to pair them.
Start with the same units and a named orientation
DJI's Goggles 3 specifications list Goggles 3 at 170 × 109 × 112 mm, in length × width × height order, with the antennas folded. The unfolded length is different, so keep the folded condition attached to these numbers.
Pelican's 1200 Protector Case measurements distinguish exterior dimensions from an interior of 23.65 × 18.11 × 10.46 cm. Converting centimetres to millimetres gives 236.5 × 181.1 × 104.6 mm. The page separately identifies 104.6 mm as total depth, including its lid and bottom portions; do not add the lid depth to it again.
| Axis | Goggles mm | Case interior mm | Case minus goggles mm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Length | 170 | 236.5 | +66.5 |
| Width | 109 | 181.1 | +72.1 |
| Height / depth | 112 | 104.6 | −7.4 |
The two retained photographs below show workbench activity. They are separate historical background, not pictures of these goggles, this case or a packing test.

The third comparison changes the answer
112 mm
104.6 mm
Conceptual height comparison. The bars compare published numbers, not actual product silhouettes or a measured lid gap.
The first two positive differences are not spare compartments or padding allowances. They are only the results of subtracting corresponding published dimensions. Along the selected height/depth axis, the goggles' number is larger. That is enough to reject a claim that this particular paper layout has clearance on every axis.
Using the exterior depth would reverse the apparent result: Pelican lists 123.4 mm outside, which is larger than 112 mm. But outside space is not storage space. Likewise, adding up the two generous horizontal differences cannot cancel the negative depth difference.
What the calculation does—and does not—settle
Write the conclusion narrowly: “The stated orientation fails the three-axis paper check by 7.4 mm in depth.” Do not turn it into “these goggles cannot fit at any angle.” A different orientation would require a new, explicit comparison; this page has not evaluated one.
Nor would three positive differences establish protective fit. Published overall dimensions do not describe every curve, protrusion, lining surface or contact point. Any proposed insert occupies space, and its actual arrangement needs its own evidence. Nothing here specifies foam thickness, authorizes compression, or establishes room for a controller and cables.
The practical next step is to carry forward the failed axis, not a vague label saying “small case.” A dimensioned interior drawing and a documented layout for the exact equipment would answer a different, more complete question. Until those exist, retain the result as a paper exclusion of this layout, with no claim that a lid was closed or equipment protected.
