VISIBLE-LIGHT UAV IMAGING

Optical zoom without a thermal payload

The SIYI ZR10 combines a 10x optical zoom camera with a three-axis gimbal in a manufacturer-listed 381 g assembly. It suits drone projects that need a movable, close-up view of visible features: roof coverings, structural joints, exposed cables or equipment markings. If the job is to inspect appearance rather than temperature, this single-camera approach keeps the imaging choice straightforward.

Its Ethernet video output and separate control interfaces also make the ZR10 a useful starting point when an aircraft already has a network video link. The camera supplies the view; the selected air unit and ground receiver complete the live viewing path.

10x

Optical magnification

Use the lens zoom to change framing before relying on additional digital enlargement. SIYI lists 30x hybrid zoom, which is a different specification from the 10x optical range.

3 axes

Controlled camera direction

Yaw, pitch and roll stabilization support a movable inspection view. The quoted stabilization system does not remove the need for a suitable mount and a vibration check on the aircraft.

Is 10x the right step?

Start with the size of the feature you need to see and the working position of the drone. A wider frame helps the operator understand the surrounding structure; optical zoom then narrows that view to a smaller area. The ZR10's listed horizontal field of view changes from 71.5° without zoom to 6.7° at 10x. That is a substantial framing change, so good control feel and a clear live image matter as much as the headline zoom number.

Choose the ZR10 when a 10x visible-light lens fits the inspection task and the aircraft benefits from the smaller listed mass. Consider the SIYI ZR30 when the project specifically needs a 30x optical range. Choose an EO/IR model when thermal patterns are part of the inspection brief; enlarging a visible-light picture cannot provide thermal information.

Recording and the live image have different jobs

The ZR10 records MP4 video at up to 2560 × 1440 at 30 fps on a suitable microSD card. Local recording preserves footage for a later review, while Ethernet carries video into the aircraft's chosen transmission system. The recording specification does not mean every connected radio or ground display will show a 2K live feed.

For integration, match the camera's Ethernet connection to the video input of the air unit. S.Bus, UART and Ethernet UDP/TCP are listed control inputs. A familiar connector alone is not enough to establish compatibility: the receiving software must support the required camera controls, including zoom, orientation and recording.

A power detail that matters for existing equipment

SIYI lists 11–25.2 V for current ZR10 production, but explicitly limits manufacturing lots before June 2023 to 11–16.5 V. When replacing an older camera or reusing a cable assembly, identify the camera batch before connecting the aircraft supply. The newer voltage range should not be applied to an older unit.

Build the quote around your video link

Send FD the aircraft model, available payload allowance, air-unit video input and ground-control software. Tell us whether you need local recording and how you want to control zoom. These details help specify the ZR10 camera, mounting parts and connection cables as a usable set.
