The same source moment can have a different address in the edit
An editor receives “check the doorway caption at 14:10” for a civilian FPV venue film. Entering that number in the edit may reach the wrong picture. Before changing anything, establish which clip or sequence supplies the clock. The Markers panel can show either context; a plausible timecode without that context is not a complete address.
Read the panel's context before its digits
Adobe's current marker overview says that a marked track item selected in the timeline makes the Markers panel display sequence timecode. Loading the marked clip in the Source Monitor instead makes the panel display source timecode. Open the panel through Window → Markers and check the selection context; its numbers should not be assumed to identify the original recording automatically.
Use a Comment Marker for this editorial note. The example below locates one source instant in two alternative placements. It does not move a clip or claim that a marker automatically follows every later edit.
- Marked HallTake loaded in Source Monitor
- Source address of the note00:00:14:10The chosen source In is 00:00:12:00.
- HallTake track item selected in sequence HallEdit-A
- Sequence address for placement A00:00:32:10The source In is placed at 00:00:30:00 in this sequence.
- Alternative placement in sequence HallEdit-B
- Sequence address for placement B00:01:02:10The same source In is placed at 00:01:00:00 here.
Carry the offset, not the source clock label
(14 × 25 + 10) − (12 × 25) = 60 frames
30 × 25 + 60 = 810 frames = 00:00:32:10
60 × 25 + 60 = 1560 frames = 00:01:02:10
The offset is two seconds and ten frames at 25 fps: 2.4 seconds, not 2.10 seconds. The final field is a frame number within the second.
Adding the whole source label to the sequence placement would count the unused opening twelve seconds as well. Subtract the declared source In first. If that In point or the timing assumptions change, these particular results no longer locate the note.
Give the reviewer an address they can reproduce
Source reference: HallTake; source 00:00:14:10; constant 25 fps; comment “Check the doorway caption.”
Edit reference: HallEdit-A; sequence 00:00:32:10; the declared placement starts with source 00:00:12:00 at sequence 00:00:30:00.
These two lines identify the same instant under the stated mapping. “HallEdit-B at 00:00:32:10” would not be the corresponding address in the alternative placement. A sequence name and version are therefore part of the reference, not decorative filename detail.
Resolve a mismatch before revising the caption
In the actual project, load the identified source, check the source-marked moment, then select the intended track item and compare the sequence readout. If the pictures differ, verify the selected item, source In and edit version before treating either comment as a request about a different doorway.
This arithmetic is not a conversion rule for mixed frame rates, drop-frame labels, retimed clips or nested edits. No Premiere session or supplied video was opened for this example, and no marker was exported to another player.
