Read a 0.05 mm Vernier for an FPV Storage Note

Civil application reference · Scale-reading practice

Seven divisions are not seven hundredths

Suppose a club is writing a size note for a removable label tab on an FPV storage pouch. The invented reading below is only a transcription exercise for that noncritical accessory, not a measurement of an actual tab or a specification for making one.

Read the zero first, then the matching line

The assumed 0.05 mm vernier zero has passed 12 mm, but not 13 mm. Its seventh line matches a main-scale line: use 12 mm plus seven increments of 0.05 mm.

Main scale · millimetres Vernier · division numbers
Original partial-scale drawing, not an instrument photograph: zero at 12.35 mm; vernier line 7 coincides with main-scale 19 mm. Both scales are cropped.
12 mm+ (7 × 0.05 mm)= 12.35 mm

In this scale design, adjacent vernier lines are 0.95 mm apart: 12.35 + 7 × 0.95 = 19 mm. Physical spacing differs from the 0.05 mm reading increment; 19 is not the main-scale contribution.

Practice entry: “Pouch label tab — hypothetical reading 12.35 mm; 0.05 mm vernier.” Do not remove “hypothetical” and reuse it as a measured dimension.

Basis: Mitutoyo's E11003 guide, printed pages 18 and 20, consulted 7 September 2026. Graduation does not establish instrument accuracy. No calibration, measurement, aircraft-part manufacture, repair or acceptance is covered. The retained workshop media do not document this exercise.
